Yumbo SeeFood

Question for you: What's a better than octopus recipe?
Answer for you: Eight recipes for octopus
AI has come a long ways in the past few years and the industry is in an arms race to produce the first Artificial General Intelligence. From OpenAI, Meta, Google, Microsoft in the west to AI powerhouse and underdogs in China1, the geopolitical battle even in our backyard has affected us for more worse2 than better.
But whatever your stance is on AI, we can all agree that it should be used to benefit us (and not replace us 🤖).
Intro
NOTE: SeeFood is still in early beta. It can and will make mistakes.
/seefood allows you to take or upload a photo of your meal and it will automatically identify the food and log your nutrition.
In the demo below, there are 3 preprocessed images. Click on the See 🍔 👀 Food button to analyze the image.

NOTE: It may take up to 1-2 minutes to analyze a real image. The majority of the time is booting up the GPU machines and loading the massive (30GB+) models. The time will eventually decrease to about a few seconds in the future as we optimize and fine tune the models.
Accuracy
You may be wondering how accurate SeeFood is and that is the right question to ask since many of other services claim to 90% accurate but in reality, the error rates can be as high as 38%3. It is extremely challenging to correctly predict the portion size based on a single image and if even more so when the food is complex.
Despite this, some users are okay to compromise the accuracy for the convenience of autotracking their meals4.
The goal of Yumbo is to have you consistently track your meals over a long period of time. This consistency will hopefully average out and make up for inaccuracies in the long term.
Premium
SeeFood requires a Premium subscription. There is a generous 3 month free trial when you sign up to try it out.
In the future, Yumbo may remove the Premium requirements and display a video ad while the image is processing to cover the compute cost.
Keep an eye out on the blog for future improvements and updates.
